Parent & Child Lessons
Bond with your child by taking music lessons together.
Music lessons are good for children and great for you!
Studies show that music lessons increase creative intelligence and contribute to success in school and success in life.
One researcher states, “The musician is constantly adjusting decisions on tempo, tone, style, rhythm, phrasing and feeling – training the brain to become incredibly good at organizing and conducting numerous activities at once. Dedicated practice of this orchestration can have a great payoff for lifelong attention skills, intelligence and an ability for self-knowledge and expression.”
Sixty-six percent of music majors who applied to Medical Schools were accepted. Only forty-four percent of the next highest major – which was biochemistry – were accepted.
Still another research team reported that piano lessons are far superior to computer instruction in enhancing children’s abstract reasoning skills. They concluded “Piano lessons jump-start certain inherent patterns in parts of the brain responsible for such reasoning. Computer lessons do not force children to think ahead or visualize, as they must when playing music.”
How about making music lessons a fun, family activity!!
In a day and age when children spend too much time with friends, computer games and the TV set, and not enough alone time with Mom and Dad, we have the solution! Our parent/child group allows the parent to learn to play a musical instrument at the same time their child is learning. Better than going fishing or shopping together, music lessons can be a way to bond with your child while they are still willing to bond. The parent/child combination can be Grandmother/ Grandchild, Uncle/ Nephew or any family combination you can think of.
Choose an instrument and start learning it together!
Structure:
Parent/Child group lessons are fun, engaging and challenging. Instruction is provided through a sequential program featuring the style of music (classical, jazz, sacred, pop or rock) the student and parent likes. Computer games teach music theory and music history in a fun and easy-to learn manner. Training on the individual instrument provides ear training, teaches note reading, rhythm and all other skills necessary to play or sing well. Performance opportunities are available to build confidence and self-esteem, if desired.
Instrumental students will be able to:
• Play all types of music with confidence
• Recognize and play expanded chords and scales in all keys
• Distinguish intervals and play by ear
• Understand key signatures
• Recognize and write different styles of music
Voice Students will be able to:
• Sing all types of music with confidence
• Breathe and sing correctly
• Distinguish intervals and sight-sing
• Understand key signatures
• Recognize and sing scales in all major and minor keys
Lessons feature sight-reading, correct technique and music theory. Students will enjoy their instrument and become proficient in reading music. Students will explore the entire range of their instrument. Voice students will explore and expand their vocal range.
